Familiar Faces On The Renegades

Arlington’s head coach is Oklahoma Sooners legend Bob Stoops. Stoops coached the Sooners from 1999 to 2016, then came back for a single game in 2021 to coach the Alamo Bowl. His 191 victories make him the winningest coach in Oklahoma history.

Punter Marquette King is the most recognizable name on the Renegades roster. King kicked balls in the NFL for six seasons, spending most of his career with the Oakland Raiders. Most people flip the channel or run to the bathroom for a punt, but King’s flashy celebrations kept fans tuned it.

Safety Will Hill is the leader of the defense. Hill was a Florida Gator and played four total NFL seasons; two with the New York Giants and two with the Baltimore Ravens.

If you’re looking for teams with Cowboys connections, the XFL has you covered. Former Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is assuming the same duties for the Houston Roughnecks

Then you’ve got QB Ben DiNucci, who played for Dallas in 2020 and lost out on a roster spot during the 2022 training camp. He’s QB1 for the Seattle Sea Dragons

The Basics Of The XFL

The league has eight teams with four squads in the XFL North and four in the South. Arlington is in the South with the Houston Roughnecks, Orlando Guardians and San Antonio Brahmas.

After the final regular season game on April 23, the top two teams from each division will meet in a semifinal matchup with the winners advancing to the championship.

The rules of the XFL are generally similar to the NFL, but there are a few glaring differences. The first being that XFL teams don’t kick a standard extra point or go for a 2-point conversion following a touchdown. Instead, teams can choose between these options: a 1-point play from the 2-yard line, a 2-point play from the 5 or a 3-point play from the 10.

During kickoffs, the blockers and tacklers from each team line up five yards apart. Only the kicker and returner can move before the ball is caught, or after it’s been on the ground for three seconds. This format prevents violent collisions during kickoffs, and results in more kick returns and fewer touchbacks.

Instead of a standard onside kick to regain possession after a score, a team will be given one offensive play to gain at least 15 yards. If they successfully convert, the offense stays on the field.
